We’ve often said that Bethlen Estates Transylvania isn’t a hotel in the traditional sense. Now, we’ll say something similar about the way we cook: the Kitchen Barn isn’t a restaurant. Yes, we have tables and chairs, plates and glasses. Yes, there’s a chef in the kitchen. But what happens here each day goes far beyond a printed menu and a fixed list of dishes. It’s something more personal. More spontaneous. More alive.
You can simply come for lunch or dinner — reserving your table via OpenTable. We’re now welcoming one-night stays, designed especially for those who travel for food. Because trust us: this is a meal worth traveling for.


So…what’s on the menu?
It’s the most common question we get before a booking: “Can we see the food menu?” “Do you have à la carte?”, “What kind of cuisine do you serve?” The short answer? We don’t have a fixed menu. And we think that’s a good thing. Instead, the menu is written the day you arrive. Sometimes it’s printed just 30 minutes before you sit down. Because what we serve is dictated by the seasons, by the harvest, by the garden and by you — your preferences, your curiosity, your dietary needs. That’s why we call it “your own private cuisine”. Whether you come for the seasonal tasting menu, lunch or dinner, the team cooks especially for you.
A deeply personal approach to food
At Bethlen Estates Transylvania, dining is a collaboration between the kitchen, the land and the guest. Every plate is a response to the moment: what’s ripe in the garden, what was foraged or hunted that day, what local producers have brought in. If you’re craving something — tell us. If you’re allergic to something — we’ll adapt. This isn’t just hospitality; it’s care, creativity and craft coming together in real time.

Even our tasting menu, which carries the signature of our kitchen and reflects the season’s essence, is adjusted daily depending on what’s available and how we’re inspired.

Behind it all is Chef Róbert Tordai, whose culinary journey spans several Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe. But what makes his work at the Kitchen Barn truly special is the freedom to reinvent every single day. Here, he’s not replicating a concept — he’s writing one, again and again, with every meal. His kitchen isn’t just fine dining — it’s a form of storytelling. A deeply personal, intuitive expression of place, time and emotion.
